Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus performed a memorial service in memory of his father on Sunday 31 May, when the Church commemorates the 318 Holy Fathers of First Ecumenical Council, at the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Tala.

Moreover, the Archbishop said in his homily: “Humans, living in sin, cannot stand on their own without the power of God. Christ Himself begged the Father to keep His disciples united in the Christian faith. When humans move away from God, they commit a sin, and, therefore, they live in Hell. However, when they remain united, they live in the Kingdom of God and in the Heaven of God.”

“We commemorate today the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council and the condemnation of Arianism. It is obvious that humans were moving away from God in the past. They were first moving away from their fellow human beings, who are the image of God,” he added.

“The mission of humans is, first and foremost, to follow the path of God on Earth, by being in Communion with Him, and then to learn how to love their fellow beings, who are the image of God. That is why, my brethren, the Church always teaches humility, so that the faithful may remain united. If humans do not stop being selfish and start being humble, they will always remain away from God as well as from their fellow human beings,” he concluded.
