Archbishop of Athens to preside over Divine Liturgy on Sunday of Othodoxy

Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece will preside over the Synodical Divine Liturgy, which will be held on Sunday, March 8. It will be the first Sunday of the Great Lent, which is called the Sunday of Orthodoxy of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, because the final defeat of iconoclasm and the restoration of icons to the churches are celebrated on that day.

The feast was established in 843 by Empress Theodore, her son, Michael III, and the Patriarch of Constantinople, Methodius the Confessor.

Priests and deacons from other Orthodox Churches will participate in the Divine Liturgy.

During the Divine Liturgy, the icons will be taken in procession inside the church in commemoration of the restoration of the icons to the churches.
