Archbishop of America: We mourn with those who mourn and we are by the side of all those who suffer and are in need

Archbishop Elpidophoros of America

Archbishop Elpidophoros of America called on all of us, through a post on Twitter, to pray for the people of Lebanon who are going through a great ordeal.

The Archbishop of America deems the tragedy in Lebanon as huge and inconceivable. But he says that by the grace and blessing of God, the country and its people will overcome the trial.

In fact, as President of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the USA, the Archbishop of America points out that the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), which is the official humanitarian organisation of the Assembly, is already doing everything in its power in order to soothe the pain of the tragedy. They have also mobilised support for our affected fellow human beings in Lebanon.

Thus, the IOCC initially raises $ 150,000 for emergency funding and sets up a comprehensive assistance programme that includes the provision of medical goods and equipment, the expansion of food programmes and participation in the process of restoration of buildings. “Our mission,” he adds,” is to support everyone and to sympathise with them all. We respond to the needs of all our fellow human beings who are currently experiencing great losses. We mourn with those who mourn and we are by the side of all those who suffer and are in need.”
