Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, who, together with the members of the Holy Synod, celebrated the established sanctification and inauguration of the new Parliament, wished the 300 MPs of the 18th Session of the House to have “Strength.”

Initially, the MPs took a religious oath of office, followed by the oath in the Quran by the three Muslim MPs, and right afterwards a political oath was taken by all the Members who wished to.

The new Parliament is represented by 61 women and six parties, and 112 of the total are new MPs elected for the first time.

Of the 300 MPs, New Democracy has 158 seats, SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance 86, the Movement of Change (KINAL) 22, KKE (Greek Communist Party) 15, the “Greek Solution” 10 and “DiEM 25” 9 seats.

Earlier, the Archbishop was welcomed by the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikos Voutsis, at his office, who, among other things, stressed that “the Parliament will always be the Ark of both Democracy and the relationship with society and with you. Your presence here has always been, apart from very welcome, very important too.” The Archbishop thanked the President and wished all Members of the Parliament “that its fruits will be rich for all of us.”
