Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece as the president of the Standing Holy Synod referred to the need for unity during the official dinner held by the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos at the Presidential Mansion in honor of the Members of the Standing Holy Synod on the feast of the Sunday of Orthodoxy.

“The Church will always declare its pure faith, experience the blessing to worship the God-man, and will adopt the word of unity, a unity that Christ wanted for his disciples of all ages.”

In his address to the President and Members of the Standing Holy Synod, President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos referred to the history and mission of the Church, resorting to what “the Holy Gospel and the Epistles of the Apostle Pavlos teach us through the respective pericopes, which were read at the Divine Liturgy of Sunday of Orthodoxy.”

He also emphasized that the people expected the Church to dedicate to the fulfillment of its mission.

On his side, the Archbishop stressed: “The hospitality of the President of the Republic demonstrates that the Greek State and our Church follow the same path, a co-operation which, in the framework of our democratic state, always aims for the benefit of our people, without walls and divisions”.

He also underlined: “Our Church will adopt the word of unity. This is the unity we are longing to see for our Church and for all of Orthodoxy. We want it for our country, we want it for the whole world.”
