An official visit to the Republic of Congo-Brazzaville is held by Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa, from today until February 19.

In the framework of the above visit, the Patriarch will meet with the President of the Republic, Denis Sassou Nguesso, and will visit the Parish Communities of the Resurrection in Brazzaville, St. Fotini in Pointe-Noire and St. Eirini in Dolisie, as well as the recently renovated institutions of the Holy Metropolis: “Agios Efstathios” Orphanage, officially designated as the country’s best social institution, Primary School “Light of Nations” and Radio Station “Voice of Orthodoxy 96,8 FM”.

The most important and historic event of the Patriarchal visit is the inauguration of Saint Demetrius Cathedral (founded in 2000 by late Metropolitan Timothy Kontomerkos of Central Africa) on Sunday, February 17, 2019, when Patriarch Theodore celebrates his nameday.

It is noted that thirty-five years have elapsed since the baptism of the first sixty-five Orthodox Congolese (1984-2019).
