Virtual tour with 3D illustration in the Monasteries of Pieria

The experience of a virtual tour with 3D display is offered to the public by the Metrpolis of Kitros, Katerini and Platamon, as, in collaboration with the Department of Topography and Geoinformatics of the University of West Attica, the relevant applications were developed for the Holy Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Litochoro, Mount Olympus and the Monastery of Panagia Makryrachi.

More specifically, on the initiative of Metropolitan Georgios, landscaping works began last year, which were carried out by a group of students of the Department under the supervision of Professor Vassilis Pagounis. The exterior and interior of the two monasteries have been integrated into a comprehensive database. At the same time, new techniques of promotion, presentation and navigation of points of religious interest of Pieria were developed and videos of virtual and augmented reality of the sites were created, which will be published on the internet and on the social networks of the Metropolis.

The project offers the possibility to technology users to experience in a realistic way a touring experience in the two of the most important Monasteries of Pieria, without having to move physically from wherever they are. This feature creates a great competitive advantage compared to other similar destinations that are being promoted to date by more conventional means.

The virtual tour of the Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Olympus is available here and here while the virtual tour of the Monastery of Panagia Makryrachis is available here and here.
