Every year, the twenty Roman Catholic immigrant parishes in Munich observe Good Friday with the Stations of the Cross (Procession of the Crucified), the so called Via Crucis of the people, in the main road of Munich.

There participate a crowd of faithful from all over the world, i.e. Great Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Hungary, Ukraine, Poland, Rumania, Czech Republic, China, Korea, Russia, Syria, Philippines, as well as thousands of Bavarians.

Each year, the figure of the Crucified Christ in front of the Procession comes in turn from a local tradition of the various peoples who participate in Via Crucis.

This year, for the first time, the Greek Orthodox Parish of All Saints in Munich was asked by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Munich and Freising to bestow its Crucified Jesus, allocated in the altar of the Church, to preside the Procession.

The Procession started from Archangel Michael’s Church and, after 14 Stations, ended at the central square of Munich,  Marienplatz (square of Virgin Mary). Archbishop of Munich and chairman of the German Bishops’ Conference, Cardinal Reinhard Marx. In each Station, priests and representatives of the Roman Catholic immigrant parishes sang hymns in different languages.
