In an interview with the Ukrainian service of the BBC, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, described the granting of the Autocephaly Tomos to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine as “an extremely important step from a geopolitical and historical point of view.”
Asked by Vitaly Chervonenko about the Ukrainian autocephaly issue, the Ukrainian prime minister said: “The Tomos of Autocephaly is an important geopolitical step for Ukraine. It is a fact that Ukraine has its local Church,” adding that “I believe that from a geopolitical and historical point of view this is an extremely important step. It will be appreciated by history and our descendants.”
