Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made new provocative statements about the Hagia Sophia issue and referred to the first Muslim prayer, held on Friday in Hagia Sophia after 86 years.

The Turkish President gave a speech today, on Sunday, at the opening of a new MIT (Turkish National Intelligence Service) office building in Constantinople. He again referred to the Hagia Sophia issue and said that some countries did not seem to know that Constantinople was on Turkish territory and that it belonged to Muslims.

Erdogan’s remarks come in response to international reactions to the Muslim prayer held in Hagia Sophia. “At the opening of Hagia Sophia on Friday, we saw that some countries do not know that Constantinople is on Turkish territory. Despite the fact that centuries have passed since its conquest, we see that they still do not accept that Constantinople is in the hands of the Turkish nation and Muslims,” the Turkish President said.
