The Patristic texts still provide timely answers to questions and problems of modern times

The two-day International Scientific Conference on the “The timeliness of Patristic Studies in the Modern World“, organised by the School of Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, was successfully completed.

The scientific conclusions of the conference, as summed up by its organizers, refer to the vitality of the Patristic discourse and texts that provide timely answers to questions and problems of modern times, that can interfere with optimism in matters related to science, and serve as a “redemption” and boost for Theology.

The conference was attended by 27 distinguished speakers, experts in Christian Theology, from all over the world, mainly from well-known universities and institutes in Europe, North America and Asia.

Some of the topics presented in the conference were the following:

– the immediate need to update the Patristic teaching and the dynamic nature of the Pastric tradition;

– the interpretation of some theological and Christological problems
of the Cappadocian Fathers; Specifically, the inspiration from the wisdom of the past and the adaptation of tradition to the needs of believers in modern society.

The various deviations from the Patristic teaching and tradition were outlined either to the Libertarian Theology side or to the conservatism and religious fanaticism and adherence to the literal interpretation of tradition.

The underlying causes for both deviations were detailed.
