The Ecumenical Patriarch at the head of “the March of the Living”

President of the Hellenic Parliament Nikolaos Voutsis with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew marched as head of “the March of the Living”, from Auschwitz to Birkenau, on the annual march to commemorate the millions of Jews who were exterminated by Nazis in the “death camps” during World War II.

Thousands of people from at least fifty-seven different countries, along with the Greek parliamentary delegation, walked the distance of about three kilometers that separates the two camps where the victims of the Nazi atrocities martyred. At the end of the march, the President of the Hellenic Parliament participated in the lighting of the torches in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

Earlier, the Greek delegation was guided to the Auschwitz State Museum. During the guided tour in the areas where millions of people suffered, the emotion was intense and the atmosphere was highly charged.
