The civil administrator of Mount Athos visited Esphigmenou Monastery

The civil administrator of Mount Athos, Athanasios Martinos, paid a visit to the representatives of the Esphigmenou Monastery in Karyes. He was then informed by the priests that the Monastery was occupied by some people who are not members of the Church.

The new civil administrator expressed his support to the Monastery as well as his interest in the unity within Mount Athos. At the same time, he expressed his concern about the damages and dangers caused to the main building of the Esfigmenou Monastery, due to the occupation and the fact that the authorities could not enter. He said, “The property of Mount Athos belongs to the Greek people.”

The Head of the Esfigmenou Monastery, Archimandrite Bartholomew, thanked the new civil administrator of Mount Athos for his support and interest in the Esfigmenou Monastery.
