The Archbishop of America meets with the Ecumenical Patriarch

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Demetrios of America

A decisive meeting for the Chair of the Archdiocese of America is held today between Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Demetrios of America.

And this, because Demetrios’ journey is taking place having as background the discussions on the decision of Bartholomew to request the resignation of Demetrios.

In particular, the Archbishop of America goes to the Phanar to inform the Patriarch about the current affairs of the Archdiocese.

According to “Kathimerini” newspaper, Demetrios will present to the Ecumenical Patriarch the improvement in the economics of the Archdiocese – several sources are even talking about stabilization- after the complaints reporting misuse of the funds raised for the erection of the church of St. Nicholas at Zero Point, New York.

Also, Archbishop Demetrios intends to inform Bartholomew on the administrative changes at the Holly Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Boston.

Moreover, the trip of Demetrios, who hadn’t been for more than a year in Constantinople, is seen as necessary, since the Archbishop has refused to resign as the Ecumenical Patriarch has called upon him and is asking to solve the problems of the Archdiocese himself.

Ecclesiastical sources believe that a definitive solution will be given to this drama at today’s meeting, interpreting Demetrius’ speech in the Holy Trinity on Holy Saturday, as an account of his 20-year ministry in the Archdiocese.
