The Agenda of the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Greek Church

Holy Synod of the Church of Greece

Next week the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of Greece will meet from Tuesday, October 8, to Friday, October 11.

The agenda of the meeting addresses the issue of falling fertility rates as a major national problem. Metropolitan Gabriel of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia is expected to read a relevant presentation.

Also, a presentation will be given by Bishop Makarios of Sidirokastro on the “genocide” of modern Greeks, on the labour problem and especially on youth unemployment and the crisis in the institution of family.

The topic of digital technology will also be at the forefront, and its implications for the role and mission of the Church will be discussed by Metropolitan Maximos of Ioannina, while Metropolitan Nicholas of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki will refer to artificial intelligence and its challenges.

On the last day of the meeting, the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy will fill the vacant Holy Metropolises of Fthiotida, Kalavryta and Aigialeia, and Lemnos and Agios Efstratios and the vacancies of Auxiliary Bishops.

It is reminded that at the meeting of the Standing Holy Synod at the end of August, the SHS recognized the Ecumenical Patriarch’s canonical right of giving Autocephaly, as well as the privilege of the Primate of the Church of Greece to further deal with the question of the recognition of the Church of Ukraine. Therefore, the Archbishop will raise the issue in the Hierarchy.
