Serbian Church honored Archbishop Demetrios, former of America

Following the Divine Liturgy of the Assembly of the Serbian Episcopal Council in the United States, the Serbian Orthodox Church awarded the Order of Saint Sava of the 1st grade to Archbishop Demetrios, former of America, Sunday, July 14, 2019.

This recognition is the highest honor bestowed by the Serbian Orthodox Church.

In his speech on receiving this decoration of merits, the Archbishop said, “the fact that I am receiving this truly humbling honor during the time when the Serbian Orthodox Church is celebrating 800 years from the time they were granted Autocephaly makes this medal of St. Sava even more meaningful and prestigious.”

The the Order of Saint Sava of the 1st grade is bestowed by the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Archbishop Demetrios was nominated by the Bishopric of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the United States of America for his 20-year leadership, fostering positive inter-Orthodox relationships.
