A pilgrim of Mount Athos took an unprecedented profane action.

Specifically, on Thursday morning, a sacrilegious entered the church where the icon of Panagia Portaitissa is held in the Holy Monastery of Iviron and removed all the voting offerings from the icon.

Shortly after, a monk who went to the church perceived the violation and immediately informed the Abbot of the Monastery, Archim. Nathaniel, about the theft.

The police, the port and the administration of Mount Athos acted immediately and catalytically to find the perpetrator and return the voting offerings.

According to Romfea.gr, as soon as the offender was perceived by the authorities, threw away the voting offerings, while he is trapped in a gorge of Mount Athos.

Finally, it should be noted that the civil administrator of Mount Athos, Konstantinos Dimtsas, was informed of the incident and his actions led the authorities to act immediately in order to find the sacrilegious and return the voting offerings.
