Complying with all restrictive measures against the transmission of COVID-19, the commemoration of the miracle of St. Spyridon, who saved the island from the Ottomans on August 11, 1716, was solemnly celebrated this year on the island of Corfu. From then until last year, the procession of St. Spyridon’s holy relic in August is the largest of the four processions of the holy relic held on the island, as thousands of believers followed the procession with Corfu solemnly celebrating its rescue.

It is noteworthy that for the first time after about three hundred years the procession of the holy relic took place inside the Church of Saint Spyridon, without the accompaniment of the local music bands, with dozens of believers inside and outside the church wearing masks and observing the social distancing measures, while the faithful had the opportunity to watch the Divine Liturgy online through the channel of the Holy Metropolis.

Metropolitan Ierotheos of Zichni and Nevrokopion preside over the Archieratical Divine Liturgy concelebrated by Metropolitan Ieronymos of Kalavryta and Aigialeia and Metropolitan Nektatios of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontia Islands.
