The President of the “Greece 2021” Committee, Gianna Angelopoulou – Daskalaki, went to Crete as part of the meetings for the preparation of the events for the 200 year anniversary since the Greek Revolution of 1821.

Gianna Angelopoulou – Daskalaki held a meeting with Archbishop Eirinaios of Crete, who informed her about a series of events that the Church of Crete has been preparing for the celebration of the bicentennial anniversary of the Greek Revolution.

Gianna Angelopoulou-Daskalaki expressed her joy and emotion for the meeting with the Archbishop of Crete and reiterated that she was proud of having origins from Crete. She added that, due to a large number of recurring conquerors, the island had longed for freedom through a revolution before 1821.

“Crete was the island that, thanks to its uprisings, that lasted much longer than 200 years, spread the flame of love for freedom while showing the Cretans’ courage against the conquerors. This was very important,” she said to Archbishop Eirinaios. “Our obligation is to highlight the special significance of each sacrifice, each battle, and each place that has become a sacred landmark,” she added.
