Pope Francis: “We no longer live in Christian society”

During the Christmas greeting of Pope Francis to the Roman Curia, he expressed his view on Christian faith, which is nowadays a cause of exclusion, punishment, and mockery.

In particular, Pope Francis said, “The first and most important task of the Church is the Evangelisation of the Peoples. He added, “We are no longer living in a Christian world” as  Europe has been flooded with non-Christians, referring to the immense influx of refugees or immigrants. “Faith – especially in Europe, but also in a large part of the West – is no longer an evident presupposition of social life.”

“That is why the Church must face other challenges, such as the Evangelisation of those peoples, who at the present time represent a voice crying in the wilderness of our humanity. For God, no one is a ‘stranger’ or an ‘outcast’. The Church must awaken consciences slumbering in indifference to the reality of the Mediterranean Sea, which has become for many a cemetery,” he added.
