With splendor at the celebrating church of Saint Nicholas in Hamzawi, Cairo, Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa ordained Bishop of Accra (Ghana), f. Petros Parginos, a clergyman born and raised from Greeks in South Africa, who originate from Ithaca.
“I dare to hope in You and in a Church that does not insist to proceed by an empty book but seeks to give substance to modern man,” the new Metropolitan emphasized, shortly before he was ordained by the Alexandrian Primate.
Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa, during the ordination, pointed out to the new Metropolitan of the Alexandrian Church that in this very temple which has linked its history with the Hellenism of the Egyptian capital, “between ancient Memphis and Heliopolis, a breath away from the Pyramids, was also ordained Bishop, exactly 130 years ago, Saint Nectarios of Pentapolis.”
At the same time, the Alexandrian Primate pointed out that the new Metropolitan was born and bred in South Africa. He is a child who came out of the inward parts of the Greek diaspora.
“Go forward with faith and confidence in the will of God and the desire of the Church and raise the Cross of the Bishop without complaint,” the Primate of the African Orthodox Church urged the new Bishop of Accra (Ghana), Petros.
