Patriarch of Alexandria visits Zambia

Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria visited Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, on Friday morning, February 21. The Patriarch of Alexandria, accompanied by Metropolitan Daniel of Axum, paid a visit to the Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs, Godfridah Sumaili.

After the meeting, the Patriarch, along with his entourage, went to the seat of the Metropolis. An event was held dedicated to First President of the Republic of Zambia and initiator of the national liberation movements, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, in recognition of his work in terms of his participation in the struggle against colonialism.

In his opening speech, Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia welcomed the Head of the Orthodox Church in Africa and President Kaunda, stressing that they were both fighting for freedom from all forms of slavery. In his speech, the Patriarch of Alexandria thanked President Kaunda for his presence at the event and commended him for promoting peace and democracy in the country.
