The proclamation ceremony declaring Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria an Honorary Citizen of the municipality of Papagou-Cholargos took place on Friday evening.
Patriarch Theodore seemed to be especially moved and said that his votive offering to Panagia Faneromeni, the patron Saint of the municipality of Papagou-Cholargos, came true. A few days before his election to his current position, he asked from the Theotokos to show him whether he was capable of serving in a higher position in Africa. He promised that he would light a candle in the Church every time he was in the area.
The Education Minister, Niki Kerameos, and the Codecographer of the Holy Synod and Head of the Church of Saint Skepi in Papagou, Archimandrite Nektarios Karsiotis, who represented Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece, also attended the ceremony.
