In an interview for the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Patriarch Irinej of Serbia expressed the hope that peace would prevail soon in Syria.

Patriarch Irinej voiced confidence in Syria’s victory, “which represents the victory of right.”

Patriarch Irinej also said that “the Serbian people are able to realize what has taken place in Syria as Serbia has undergone the same conditions over the past years.”

“I am so pleased to talk to the good people of Syria and to see the city of beauty and grandeur,” added the Patriarch.

He then pointed out the significance of Damascus throughout history, which will continue to enjoy the same status, despite the war waged on it.

Patriarch Irinej also expressed regret over attempts made by the major powers to impose greater control and influence on the peoples of different parts of the world.

Finally, Patriarch Irinej stressed: “I wonder whether these forces are finding solutions or are causing further aggravation to crises.”
