Patriarch Irinej met Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met earlier today with Patriarch Irinej of Serbia.

The cordial and open talks tackled the topics of importance for the state of Serbia and the Serbian Orthodox Church. President Vučić informed Patriarch Irinej about the current political situation and the increasingly momentous economic progress of Serbia, resulting from the implemented fiscal reforms. The two interlocutors agree that more work and more unity are what will always deliver significantly greater results in all fields and make Serbia a better and more organized country for all of its citizens.

The Patriarch thanked the President for his personal and committed dedication and assistance provided by the state for the completion of works on the Saint Sava Temple in Vračar. The Patriarch informed President Vučić about the ongoing stage of the Temple’s final works and the desire for the Temple to be completed and consecrated by the end of next year.

President Vučić said that the state will continue to support the completion of works and that the completed Temple would be one of Serbia’s most recognizable symbols.

The meeting was attended by Bishop of Bačka Irinej, Vicar Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, Principal of Saint Sava Temple, Secretary-General of the President of the Republic Nikola Selaković, Chief of Staff to the President of the Republic Ivica Kojić and Personal Secretary of the Patriarch Dejan Nakić.
