Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan referred to the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque and to the first Muslim prayer held since 1934.

According to the Anadolu news agency, the Turkish president spoke of an 86-year-old wound that was finally healed and pointed out that the religious sentiment had been growing even more. “The fact that Hagia Sophia reopened as a mosque and a place of worship on the 24th of July, healed an 86-year-old wound in the heart of our nation,” he said.

Desecration of interior of Hagia Sophia is outrageous

At the same time, photos of the desecration of the interior of Hagia Sophia have been seen by everyone all around the globe.

Moreover, there is a photo showing a “believer” posing in a relaxed position and taking a selfie on the floor of the emblematic monument, where the first prayer for the Muslim Feast Eid al-Adha was held after 86 years. He did not respect the historicity of the place and the people around him did not seem to react with his attitude either.

As reported by MEGA TV, the Turkish President attaches particular importance to the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque. This is also reflected in the fact that the prayer for Eid al-Adha was performed again by the Head of the Directorate of Religious Affairs, Ali Erbas. The Turkish Grand imam used extreme symbolism and spoke of a “great conquest”. The image of Ali Erbas ascending the minbar for the first time and holding an Ottoman sword reminded us moments of barbarism.
