New book by Archbishop of Tirana just released

The latest book by Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and all of Albania has been released by Ngjallja Publications of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania.

It is a three-language textbook–summary of the history of the Orthodox Church in the area of modern Albania under the title “The Orthodox Church in the area of modern Albania (1st to the middle of 20th century).”

Archbishop Anastasios has arranged his material in the phases of the Orthodox Church in this area. With his new book, a much more detailed historical overview of the Orthodox Church of Albania is made.

The Archbishop attempts to scientifically document the presence of Christianity in Albania since the Apostolic era, the flourishing of Orthodoxy in the Byzantine years, the contribution and the significance of the Orthodox Church under the Ottoman rule, the granting of the autocephaly status by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1937. The book casts light on the period of persecution of the Church under the state atheism, and the consequences.

In Part two, Archbishop Anastasios analyzes the spiritual and cultural heritage in the history of art (architecture, iconography, mosaics, micrographs, etc.). The material is chronologically arranged: Early Christian, Byzantine and Post-Byzantine era.
