Metropolitan of Messinia: The Church cannot react to everyone who exploits religious sentiment

Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia

In an interview for SKAI TV channel, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia referred to the alleged “Epistles of Jesus.”

“There are no such epistles. Jesus wrote no epistles,” the Metropolitan of Messinia said.

“All these are fabrications circulating in the Middle Ages. All those rumours circulating from time to time are antihistorical, unfounded, and have no theological or spiritual value.”

“Unfortunately, there are some people who exploit and misinform us for their own benefit,” the Metropolitan of Messinia added.
Metropolitan Chrysostomos also urged believers not to accept such perceptions.

“There are some people who take advantage of the religious sentiment of the faithful, turn it into bigotry, and try to exploit it. The Church cannot react to every person who exploits religious sentiment by any means. Everybody knows the tradition, the teaching, and the history of our Church. The Church has repeatedly commented on the so-called Epistle of Jesus. Everybody knows that it is a hoax,” the Metropolitan added.

“The greatest disappointment is that they exploited Jesus Christ during their pre-election campaign, turning this whole period before elections into a “commodification of religion,” underlined Metropolitan Chrysostomos.
