Mesolongi celebrates its 193th anniversary of the Exodus

In a pious and reverent atmosphere, the Exodus of the Free Besieged [Eleutheroi Poliorkimenoi] was celebrated in Mesolongi.

In the events, based in St. Spyridon Metropolitan, there participated guests of Metropolitan Cosmas of Aetolia and Akarnania, the Metropolitans Daniel of Kaisariani, Vyron and Hymettos, and David of Grevena.

On Saturday morning, as is customary, the Icon of the Exodus and the Cross of Bishop Joseph of Roges was carried to the Holy Church, followed by the litany from History and Art Museum.

The litany was attended by a crowd of people, as well as the local Metropolitan Cosmas, the Mayor of the Holy City of Mesolongi Nikolaos Karapanos, military and civil authorities of the city and the wider region.

Nextly, Metropolitan Cosmas  went to the grave of Bishop Joseph of Roges, which is situated at the court of St. Panteleimon Church in Mesolongi and performed a burial ceremony, in the presence of the city’s authorities.

On Saturday afternoon, the Great Vesper Service was held, presided by Metropolitan David of Grevena.

The Icon of the Exodus and Bishop Joseph’s eulogized Cross was ahead of the litany that followed from the Holy Church to the town’s Garden of Heroes.
