Memory of Venerable Theodora of Thessalonica

The Orthodox Church commemorates today Venerable Theodora of Thessalonica.

Venerable Theodora was the epitome of purity and humility. She distinguished herself in the city of Thessalonica because she was living a virtuous life from a very young age. Her faith in Saviour Jesus Christ showed her the right path and, therefore, she decided to live a solitary life in which she was studying the Divine Word and was educating herself. She was selling her handiwork and giving the money to the ones in need. She was living along with her sisters in a monastery and was following a path of placidity, humility, and patience. She was an example for everybody in the Church as well as for her fellow human beings because she was honest, genuine, and eager to forgive others.

Legend has it that years after the saint’s blessed repose the Bishop with the nuns of the sisterhood and many believers opened her tomb to find the holy relics of Saint Theodora, but they witnessed that her body was protected from the ravages of the time.
