The Orthodox Church commemorates today two Great ascetics, Macarius of Egypt, also known as Macarius the Great, and Macarius of Alexandria.
They lived in the 4th century AD. in Egypt, on Mt. Nitria, and became known for their ascetic lives and for their great faith. They performed many miracles by the power of God. For example, they both raised people from the Dead. Their lives have been and continue to be a spiritual guide for many monks and for every faithful Christian. However, it is not known whether their works are written by them or by their disciples.
One of the miracles of Jesus, reported in the Gospel, is when He healed ten men with leprosy. We actually see such miracles still happening in everyday life. God makes sure that we are always blessed in abundance. Almighty God gave to human beings all the gifts they need; He has given each one of us unique abilities and talents.
