Today, our Holy Church commemorates Saint Leo the Great, Bishop of Rome, the Martyrs Dorotheos and Theodoulos, Venerable Cosmas and Saint Nicholas the Patriarch of Georgia.
Saint Leo was born in Rome around the end of the 4th century AD. He entered the Church as a child and was soon ordained a deacon by the bishops of Rome. Due to his Orthodox spirit, wisdom and prudence he was distinguished for his virtue.
Within this framework, he went on to the arena of life and reached a height of spiritual maturity. The Church elected him Bishop of Rome on September 29, 440 AD.
During the work of the Fourth Ecumenical Council, he offered great services to the Orthodox Church. With his enlightened personality, he helped formulate the term Faith, according to the theological content of his letter, presented by his four representatives. It referred to the truth about the face of Jesus Christ in both natures, divine and human.
Saint Leo, Bishop of Rome, fell asleep peacefully in a very old age in 460 AD.
