Memory of St. Eusebius, Bishop of Samosata

By Bishop Grigorios of Mesaoria

Today our Holy Church honors the memory of Hieromartyr Eusebius, Bishop of Samosata, who lived in the 4th century and strongly defended Orthodoxy against emperor Constantius, patron of the Arians, and Julian the Apostate. He suffered many hardships and exiles and died a martyr’s death.

In a letter to him, St. Gregory the Theologian, Archbishop of Constantinople, calls him “a pillar and support of the truth” and “a great illuminator and rule of faith.”
