The Orthodox Church commemorates today Saint Diomedes, one of the twenty Holy Unmercenaries, who came from Tarsus of Cilicia and became a martyr under Emperor Diocletian.

He studied the art of medicine, he healed the physical passions of people but also mental disorders. He enlightened and guided the souls of his fellow human beings through the preaching of the teachings of the Saviour Jesus Christ.

The Church also commemorates today the Martyr Alcibiades, who became a martyr after being thrown into the fire and New Martyr Stamatius of Demetrias, near Volos, who became a martyr in Constantinople in 1680. He did not succumb to the pressure exerted of the Turks and refused convert to Islam.
