The Interreligious Council of Albania intervened for unity, in order to defuse the volatile political situation in Albania through dialogue and conciliation, and to have more love, understanding and co-operation.

In a Council statement (consisting of the Orthodox Autocephalous Church, the Muslim Community, the Bektashi World Headquarters and the Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania), there is a call for political dialogue and moderation in order to end the protracted conflicts that deepen poverty, increase immigration, weaken democratic institutions and harm the international image of Albania.

Among other things it is mentioned that the Council “is watching with concern the political situation in our country, which directly affects the social and economic affairs and the future of our youth, by creating a precarious situation and by undermining the hope of a troubled but lively and powerful people towards the tribulations it has faced throughout history.”

It is also added to the announcement: “We all need to stick firmly to the virtue of hope that is being harmed day by day.”

Therefore, the political actors are urged to avoid all kinds of violence and to find a solution for the benefit of the whole Albanian society, especially the youth, which deserves a country with a hopeful future.

It is also noted that Archbishop Anastasios of Albania has the role of peacemaker from the very first moment the Patriarchate commissioned him to organize the Orthodox Church of Albania.
