Head of Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy congratulated newly-elected Metropolitan of Argentina

“The Orthodox Church carries out a national mission abroad. It consists our major responsibility to preserve national consciousness along with our schools, which strive to preserve the Greek language,” said Maximos Charakopoulos, the head of the Greek delegation at the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), during his address at the ceremony organised by Greek Ambassador to Argentina, Dimitrios Zevelakis, for the enthronement of newly-elected Metropolitan Iosif of Buenos Aires.

Maximos Charakopoulos, who made an official visit to Argentina to represent the Greek Parliament, said, “I am glad for one more reason; In recent years, the Ecumenical Patriarchate showed confidence in new hierarchs, such as Metropolitan Iosif of Buenos Aires and Latin America, who was elected by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The newly-elected Metropolitan of Buenos Aires has received Greek education – and whoever has received Greek education is indeed Greek as well as ‘Romios’. I wish that he would bring hope to Latin America the same way the new Archbishop of America, Elpidophoros, did to the Greek population in the US and to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The Orthodox Church carries out a national mission abroad,” Maximos Charakopoulos pointed out.
