Greek PM Mitsotakis visited Holy Monastery of Saint George in Old Cairo

The Greek community in Cairo warmly welcomed Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a meeting with its representatives at the Greek Embassy in Zamalek, an affluent district of western Cairo, just after the 7th Trilateral Summit of Egypt – Greece – Cyprus held in Cairo.

The prime minister had the opportunity to discuss with the President of the Greek Community of Cairo, Christos Kavalis, the issues concerning the Greek community in Cairo.

Earlier, Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the centuries-old Monastery of Saint George in Old Cairo, one of the most important monuments of Christianity in Africa, where Bishop Theodoros of Babylon welcomed and showed him around to “Rotunda of the East.” According to tradition, the Holy Family lived there with the Divine Infant for three years.

At the same time, in this sacred site, the prime minister was welcomed by the man who undertook the whole renovation of the Holy Monastery in previous years, the Civil Governor of Mount Athos, Athanasios Martinos with his spouse Marina. The renovation work was supervised by Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa.
