Greek Government spokesman Stelios Petsas spoke to Greek radio station SKAI 100.3 about Greek-Turkish relations and Erdoğan’s decision to convert the Church of the Holy Saviour in Chora, in Constantinople, into a mosque.

Stelios Petsas stressed, “We always want to have good neighbourly relations” with Turkey. “Any intervention from abroad is regarded as positive as long as it leads to a de-escalation of the situation from the Turkish side,” he added.

The Greek government spokesman referring to the conversion of the Chora Church in Constantinople into a mosque said that everyone was weighing the matter: “We will take any diplomatic and legal action on the issue,” he said. “It is a World Heritage Site,” he added.

Stelios Petsas also spoke of the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean region and stressed that Greece defined its maritime zones under the agreements concluded with Italy and Egypt.
