On February 14, the President of the Greek Community of Alexandria, Edmondos Kasimatis, welcomed the Deputy Foreign Minister for Diaspora Greeks, Konstantinos Vlasis. They discussed the issues concerning the Greek Community of Alexandria.

The president of the Greek Community of Alexandria emphasized that “The Greeks of Alexandria, there are so few of us, but we keep our Greek soul and Orthodox faith. Not only we maintain our high ideals and traditions, but also we pass them on the new generations of Greeks and Egyptians.”

On his part, the deputy minister stressed that it was regrettable that 150,000 Greeks once lived in the area. “But we also need to be pragmatic. And so, sadness brings happiness. I am very happy that some Greeks here still keep Greek community alive. They go on, they keep our buildings, they keep our traditions, our culture and customs.”
