Greek Deputy Foreign Minister met Ambassadors of Armenia and of Russia

Deputy Foreign Minister Konstantinos Vlasis met today the Ambassador of Armenia, Fadey Charchoghlyan, and Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Andrey Maslov.

At the meeting, the ambassador of Armenia stressed that the two countries maintained an excellent level of bilateral relations and, in addition to trade and diaspora issues, the co-operation could also be extended to culture and education, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On his part, the deputy minister referred to the close cultural and religious ties between the two countries as well as to the trilateral co-operation between Greece, Cyprus and Armenia on diaspora issues, while proposing that a new meeting should be scheduled soon.

The ambassador of the Russian Federation first referred to the two meetings held by Foreign Ministers Nikos Dendias and Sergey Lavrov in Moscow in November and at the Munich Conference in mid-February. The ambassador also referred to the meeting of the Greek Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Themistoklis Demiris, with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko in early February in Moscow.

Vlasis highlighted the long-standing and historic ties between the two countries, putting particular emphasis on history and Orthodoxy.

Finally, he mentioned the potential for even greater development of bilateral relations and expressed his desire to visit the communities of Greek expatriates living in southern Russia.
