The Funeral Service of the late Founder of the Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Mother of God La Faurie in the French Alps was held this morning.

Metropolitan Emmanuel of France presided over the Funeral Service along with Most Reverend Bishop Maximos of Mytilene, the monks of the Holy Monastery, Abbots of other Monasteries, the clergy of the Holy Metropolis of France and of the Archdiocese of France.

The blessed Elder Victor Raïssi founded the monastery in the ’80s and set a good example regarding the spread of Orthodox Christianity and the Anthonite monastic way of life in France, which is continued by the current fraternity until today.

The Metropolitan of France stressed, in his homily, the following: “The mystery of the separation of the soul from the body is of particular importance in these very days since we celebrate the Dormition of the Theotokos. The feeling of happiness emerges from within us as we see that the soul of the person who was for many of us a spiritual father, a co-ascetic and a friend is returning to God. The Orthodox world in France owes him a great debt. The monastic community in this area, where the wild alpine nature leads us to meditate on the divine work is the fruit of much hard work, difficulties, effort, and sweat.”
