Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili met Metropolitan Epiphanius of the Autocephalous Church of Ukraine today, Tuesday, June 4.
Metropolitan Epiphanius welcomed warmly the former President of Georgia and former Governor of Odessa, Mikheil Saakashvili.
During the meeting, the two men discussed the process to be followd for the recognition of the new Church from the other Local Orthodox Churches, especially the Patriarchate of Georgia.
Mikheil Saakashvili praised the actions of Metropolitan Epiphanius regarding the establishment of the new Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
On his part, Metropolitan Epiphanius thanked Mikheil Saakashvili for the visit and noted that there was still a long way to go.
Finally, it should be mentioned that the newly elected President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, restored Mikheil Saakashvili’s Ukrainian citizenship, who was deported in 2017 by the preveious president, Petro Poroshenko.
