Former Metropolitan of Peristeri Chrysostomos has passed away

The former Metropolitan of Peristeri, Chrysostomos, died this afternoon at the age of 84, after a long illness.

The late Metropolitan was born in Arta in 1935. He graduated from the Theological School of Halki in 1960. He was further trained in France and Germany and was proclaimed Doctor and associate professor of Theology in Strasbourg and Athens.

He was ordained deacon on July 20, 1960 and Presbyter on May 1, 1970 by Metropolitan Jacob of Germany. In 1976 he was elected by the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece Titural Metropolitan of Gardiki and was appointed Director of the Inter-Orthodox Center of the Church of Greece, a position he held until 1999.

In 1978 he was elected Metropolitan of the Holy Metropolis of Peristeri by the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece. On March 5, 2019, in a letter to the Standing Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, he resigned for health reasons.
