The falling asleep in the Lord of former Metropolitan Kallinikos of Piraeus marks the end of an era for the Church of Greece. The former Metropolitan of Piraeus reposed in the Lord after being hospitalised for a short period of time.

Also known as Konstantinos Karoussos, he was born in 1926 in Vartholomio in Elis. He lived in Patras, where he began teaching as a catechist in 1948. He was ordained deacon in 1956 and presbyter in 1959. In 1973, he founded the Monastery of Panagia Chrysopigi, along with Archimandrites Amvrosios and Christodoulos, of which he became Abbot. On January 12, 1978, he was elected Metropolitan of Piraeus by the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece. The founding of the radio station “Peiraiki Ekklisia”  (Church of Piraeus) was a significant part of his pastoral work.

On February 4, 2006, he submitted his resignation to his spiritual son, Archbishop Christodoulos, due to health issues. In 2019, he also resigned from his position as Abbot of the Monastery of Panagia Chrysopigi.
