Greek Foreign Minister: A new chapter in bilateral relations with Russia opens

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov signed a joint Greece-Russia 2020-2022 Consultation Programme between the Foreign Ministries of Greece and Russia.

The Greek minister of Foreign Affairs is currently on his first visit to Moscow, which takes place at a particularly delicate juncture amid significant regional developments.

The Greece-Russia 2020-2022 Consultation Programme signed between the two sides establishes regular contacts between the two countries, both at the service and at the political level.

Greek diplomacy states the ambition that this visit will open a new chapter in further strengthening the friendly Greek-Russian relations, a new phase of development based on sincere dialogue and regular communication, diplomatic sources said yesterday.

According to the same sources, Greece aims to further strengthen cooperative relations with the Russian side, on the basis of mutual respect and equality.

On his part, the Greek Foreign minister stated the ambition that his meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, would mark the opening of a new chapter of Greek-Russian cordial bilateral relations.

“This effort to thawing our mutual relations has a twofold purpose: One the one hand, to promote our bilateral relations on a wide range of existing conditions, on the one hand, to develop closer cooperation and mutual understanding of international and regional issues,” Nikos Dendias noted.

On his part, Sergey Lavrov stressed that the new Greek government offered us the additional opportunity to analyse, review our bilateral relations and see how they would develop further.
