The clergy and laity bid a final farewell to the late former Metropolitan of Zahlé and Baalbek (Heliopolis), Spyridon, on Tuesday, September 17.
Patriarch John of Antioch officiated the funeral service, accompanied by hierarchs from the Patriarchate of Antioch.
The representative of the President of Lebanon, Michel Aoun, and the Prime Minister, Saad Hariri, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Lebanon Elie Ferzli, attended the funeral service.
In his speech, Patriarch John spoke of a man with fear of God, who dedicated his life to preaching the Holy Gospel and offering his love to his neighbour.
The Primate of the Church of Antioch also added that the late Metropolitan is the epitome of hierarch and shepherd and that we should follow his example.
Finally, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Lebanon referred to the great spiritual and social work of the late Metropolitan, placing the medal of the highest state order of Lebanon on the coffin.
