EU Vice President: I feel angry about what is happening in Hagia Sophia – Turkey to decide where it wants to belong

Margaritis Schinas

Margaritis Schoinas spoke about Hagia Sophia as Vice President of the European Commission but also as Greek Commissioner. “As a Greek, I feel sour and angry. It is a difficult day and I am sure that I am not the only one who feels that way,” he said answering a question from OPEN TV.

He went on to explain that Turkey must decide where it wants to belong. “Turkey will have to decide on its broader geopolitical goal. If it wants to continue on the path towards Europe, it must respect our European values. And what is happening today is a wrong start,” the Vice President of the Commission underlined.
