Egyptian citizenship was proposed to be granted to Aikaterini Sofianou-Belefanti

Egypt paid homage to Benefactor and Ambassadress of the Greek Community, Aikaterini Sofianou-Belefanti, who renovated the Church of Saints Konstantinos and Eleni in Cairo with the help of the Greeks who live there. The Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Nabila Makram, proposed to grant to Aikaterini Sofianou-Belefanti Egyptian citizenship as a tribute to her work.

This statement was made during the official luncheon following the consecration ceremony. Nabila Makram said that “Even though I did not have the honour to know you before, I would like to thank you for the love you give to my homeland, Egypt. So, I would like to grant you Egyptian citizenship”. The statement of Nabila Makram was followed by a standing ovation.

She added that “I would like to congratulate you on the renovation of the Church of Saints Konstantinos and Eleni, which is indeed a very important temple.”
