Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew warmly welcomed Stelios Kymbouropoulos, Greek MEP, who visited today the seat of the Holy Great Church of Christ.

The Ecumenical Patriarch congratulated Mr. Kymbouropoulos on his election to the European Parliament, but also on his progress so far, pointing out that he is an example not only to people with disabilities but to society as a whole.

He also wished him to contribute to the strengthening and consolidation of equal opportunity policies for people with disabilities and to their equal access to all areas of daily life, during his term of office.

At the same time, the Ecumenical Patriarch pointed out that as a society we must stand up to any form of discrimination that may occur to people with disabilities.

“Our message is dignified life and equal opportunities for all,” the Ecumenical Patriarch said.

For his part, Mr. Kymbouropoulos thanked the Patriarch for their meeting and briefed him on his activities in the European Parliament, as well as for his participation in various committees, such as that of Human Rights.
