Ecumenical Patriarch meets with Greek PM in Abu Dhabi

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew is in the United Arab Emirates for the ‘Human Fraternity’ event, a year after the signing of the Human Fraternity Document, which addresses the importance of inter-religious dialogue, tolerance and harmonious coexistence of religions.

“A very nice coincidence,” the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, told the Ecumenical Patriarch.

“We are very happy about this coincidence and the good timing. God willing, I will come to Athens in May,” Patriarch Bartholomew said, adding: “We arrived last night, it is an open, liberal city.”

They both remembered their recent meeting in Davos. The Prime Minister noted the Ecumenical Patriarch’s sensitivity and knowledge on the climate change issue, which was discussed at this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos.

“You saw the challenges of climate change long ago,” Mr Mitsotakis said.

“30 years,” the Ecumenical Patriarch answered. “Your word is particularly important in these matters,” the Prime Minister added.
